This journey begins in Marrakech, but its real thread lies beyond the classic routes: gradually moving away from the major tourist corridors to reach Morocco’s high plateaus, desert tracks and wide-open horizons.
The 4x4 first heads towards Imilchil in the High Atlas, a world of mountains, villages and high-altitude lakes. The relief then opens southwards towards the first Saharan expanses. At Merzouga, Erg Chebbi offers the first encounter with the dunes. Further south, M’Hamid changes the pace again: three nights allow the desert to become a true part of the journey rather than a short stop.
The return runs through Ouarzazate and its earthen architecture before reaching Marrakech again. Mountain lodging, a Saharan camp, kasbah-style accommodation and a Marrakech riad create a second narrative through the places where you stay.
The Trail Route is designed for travellers who are looking less for a sequence of monuments than for a genuine crossing: mountains, tracks, desert, encounters and constantly changing landscapes.
